Message from the Teen Department
2011 has been such a blast and I look forward to the further growth and development of the Teen Department in 2012. The Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center’s Teen Department hosts a variety of enriching events and leadership opportunities while bringing together teens of diverse backgrounds from all over San Diego. It’s exciting to provide programming that establishes a strong Jewish community for teens and allows participants to develop into emotionally well-rounded leaders of the future.
The Teen Leadership Council rang in the new school year by growing in popularity and participation. We’ve more than doubled in size with 42 active leaders! Led by Co-Presidents, Jacob Katz and Ali Trandonsky, the talented and motivated teens continue to impress with their forward thinking ideas, thoughtful discussion, and overall enthusiasm for the upcoming year and future. We have so many great established programs that we will continue to offer like Club J, Ski and Snowboarding trips, Dodgeball Tournaments, and the West Coast College Tour. Additionally, many new programs will be offered such as the former programs of the Agency for Jewish Education; Partners in Prevention, March of the Living, and J-Serve. We’ve newly renovated the Wax Family Teen Lounge to provide a space for teens to go after school for some X-BOX Kinect, Wii, pool, table tennis, brand new touch screen computers, snacks, and fun! Also, our Girls Life program, funded by the Jewish Women’s Foundation, provides a fabulous leadership opportunity for tween girls. Make sure to check out our Teen and Parent Seminar Series that addresses issues pertinent to the daily lives of teens. Finally, this year’s JCC Maccabi Games and Artsfest will be an experience of a lifetime with the entire San Diego Delegation heading to Houston, Texas!
There is a lot to be excited about for the upcoming year. The Teen Department at the Lawrence Family JCC will continue to provide teens with opportunities to become well-rounded individuals through community service and leadership programs. We go forward into 2012 with a mission to unite even more San Diego teens in an environment that fosters self-esteem, Jewish identity, individuality, and leadership.
